Birth: December 10, 1815
Death: November 27, 1852
Education: Women were not allowed in United Kingdom universities, so Ada's mother hired tutors to teach Ada mathematics and science. Ada was tutored by William Frend, William King, and Mary Somerville.
Contributions: Ada translated Luigi Federico Manabrea's "Sketch of Charles Babbage's Analytical Engine" in English. She also added some of her own detailed annotations and explainations. In her paper, she included the Bernoulli number algorithm, which was the world's first published computer program or algorithm which is why she is cited as the world's first computer programmer. She also realized that an analytical engine could go beyond performing calculations, and that it could become a machine that represented number as abstract items or musical notes.

Birth: June 23,1912
Death: June 7, 1954
Education: He entered the University of Cambridge to study mathematics. He got a BA and a MA degree. Later, he did his Ph.D. in mathematical logic from Princeton University.
Contributions: Alan Turing presented the principle of a universal machine which was later called the Turing Machine. Turing Machines were capable of computing anything that was computable. The central concept of the modern computer was based on his ideas. Turing was also involved in the development of the Turing-Welshman Bombe, an electro-mechanical device designed to decipher Nazi codes during World War II.

Birth: March 2, 1931
Education: She received an undergraduate degree from West Liberty University. She did her Ph.D. in biochemistry from Purdue University.
Contribution: She managed first the ARPANET, and then the Defense Data Network (DDN), network information centers (NIC) under contract to the Department of Defense (DoD). Both of these early networks were forerunners of today's internet. Her group managed the Host Naming Registry for the Internet from 1972 until 1989. She and her group developed the top-level domain naming scheme of .com, .edu, .gov, .mil, .org, and .net.
